Keeping your body healthy is an expression of gratitude to the whole cosmos—the trees,
the clouds, everything. – Thich Nhat Hanh

In honor of United Nations Peace Day our community came together for New Delhi’s first ever yogathon to support educationally disadvantaged children. It was a beautiful event. Hundreds gathered at the American Embassy School’s Hall of Peace early on a Saturday morning. Together we meditated for peace followed by sun salutations to raise money for two orphanages. The idea was to have the MAXIMUM number of people doing ONE sun salutation and depending on willingness of body and mind they could do more! Inspired by the yogathons I’ve participated in I brought the concept to New Delhi to promote mindful activity and bring people together in the spirit of service and peace. A yogathon consists of completing as many sun aalutations as you can (usually up to 108) to raise money for a worthwhile cause. The event was an element of a “Day of Peace and Activism” at the American Embassy School. It was followed by an Eco-Mela supporting local NGOs, a film festival and it also served as an opportunity for students to share all of their wonderful service work in the community. The photos speak for themselves.
