Life is pure adventure and the sooner we realize that, the quicker we will be able
to treat life as art. – Maya Angelou

My dear friend, Dennis, calls me a “Dharma Travel Writer.” Dharma in this context refers to the teachings of the Buddha or the “Buddha Dharma.” While my world view has definitely been influenced by Buddhist thought, I find tremendous value and insight from many spiritual traditions and philosophical systems.

When Professor Gandhi asked me to keep a journal and share my spiritual journey I hesitated but compromised by writing e-mails about my experiences and sending them to my friends and global spiritual family :) I have visited many, many, many places but have only included a few of my e-mail write-ups here. My hope is that these reflections can guide you if you ever plan to visit any of these places or engage in any of these experiences. Unfortunately, I didn’t write about or document many of my travels or experiences during my first 1.5 years in India which included a very special pilgrimage all over South India (this trip included Amritapuri, Kanyakumari, and I even tracked down my nadi leaves in Tamil Nadu!), Varanasi/Sarnath, Assam and Dharamsala. However, photos of all of my travels from June of 2006 until now are on Facebook including a lovely trip from a few years ago to the Andaman Islands and my time at the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar in January of 2010. Travels and reflections from August 2010 to June 2011 are archived on my “Year of Mindfulness in the Classroom” blog and linked directly.  I’d be more than happy to speak with any of you that are interested in learning more about what is featured below!

Hope is…an orientation of the heart, it transcends the world that is immediately experienced, and is anchored somewhere beyond its horizons. – Vaclav Havel
